  • Tell us a little about yourself: Hello! I’m Randy. I live in a place called Rancho Redondo. I’d describe it as a semi-rural area, and since I’ve lived here my whole life, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for nature. I enjoy going on walks with my dog, visiting rivers, hiking, camping, and spending time at the beach.
    I also ride a motorcycle, which is another activity I really enjoy. I love discovering new roads and exploring different routes.
    I’m a huge football fan. I enjoy both watching and playing it. I usually play two to three times a week, and I also enjoy playing it as a video game.
    I like going out, but if I’m being honest, I often prefer staying at home, watching a movie or a series, and simply relaxing.


  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? To be honest, choosing my career was mostly a matter of luck. I didn’t really know much about programming at first, but once I started learning, I discovered how much I enjoyed what I could create with it. In the end, it turned out to be a great decision.


  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? I’d say the recent AI boom. I started using AI near the end of college, and I’ve been using it in my daily work ever since. 
  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? It’s a really positive environment. They care about you not only as an employee, but also as a person. My manager always asks how the client is treating me, and if I ever have any issues, they’re always willing to help. 
  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo and how have you utilized these opportunities to grow as a professional? I’ve had the opportunity to work with new technologies and tools. I feel that this helps me stay relevant in the job market and gives me a continuous learning experience. I’m always learning. 
  • What aspects of working at Mismo’s engineering team make you proud and motivate you in your daily tasks? For me, two of the most important things are being recognized for your work and receiving feedback on where you can improve. I’ve experienced both here.

  • Tell us a little about yourself: Hi, I’m Matias. I’m originally from Córdoba, Argentina, and I’ve been part of Mismo for almost five years. As an MLOps Engineer, my primary focus is supporting our data scientists and helping them seamlessly deploy their machine learning models into production. Outside of work, I’m the proud parent of two wonderful kids, and I enjoy spending my free time playing padel.
  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? My journey into engineering actually began with a passion for mathematics. While studying math, I took a Numerical Analysis course that involved programming, and I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed it. That experience sparked my interest in engineering, and today, I find inspiration in the simple yet powerful ability to use technology to solve complex, real-world problems.

  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? One of the milestones I’m most proud of has been designing and implementing robust pipelines that bring machine learning models into production. These models are often developed by data scientists who are exceptionally skilled in their field but may not have extensive software engineering experience. Building the infrastructure that transforms their work into stable, scalable, production-ready services is both a rewarding technical challenge and a meaningful way to create real-world impact.
  • What made you choose Mismo? I was originally drawn to Mismo because of its fantastic atmosphere. It’s a place filled with warm, welcoming people who are always genuinely willing to support one another and help wherever they can.
  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? With 20 years of professional experience, I can honestly say that Mismo has the best work environment I have ever been a part of.
  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo and how have you utilized these opportunities to grow as a professional? I have always been a highly self-taught person, so rather than relying primarily on formal training resources, my greatest learning opportunity at Mismo has been my team. The collaborative environment allows me to continuously learn from my peers and grow professionally by working through day-to-day challenges together.
  • What aspects of working at Mismo’s engineering team make you proud and motivate you in your daily tasks? What makes me most proud and keeps me motivated every day is the team’s unwavering willingness to support one another. Knowing that I have such a supportive group behind me makes all the difference in my day-to-day work.
  • How do you believe the company and engineering can positively impact the world, people’s lives, and make a difference in their respective industries? Engineering certainly has the power to make a positive impact on the world, although the extent of that impact depends greatly on the projects we choose to pursue. Especially today, with the rapid advancement of AI and the uncertainty surrounding where these technologies may lead, it is essential that we focus on building responsible, reliable solutions that serve a meaningful and practical purpose.
  • What Mismo policies or practices have helped you improve your work-life balance? Since I work primarily as a contractor, my work-life balance is largely influenced by the specific projects and expectations set by each client. However, Mismo’s supportive environment and understanding of this dynamic help me navigate those requirements effectively while maintaining a healthy balance.
  • What inspiring advice would you give to someone considering a career in engineering or looking to join a company like Mismo? My advice is simple but essential: study hard, work hard, and always be willing to help your colleagues. Technical skills may open doors, but teamwork and mutual support are what build a successful, meaningful, and fulfilling career over the long term.

  • What tools or technologies do you use most frequently in your daily work as an engineer at Mismo? My day-to-day work revolves heavily around Python development. To orchestrate and manage data workflows, I regularly use tools such as Airflow, Snowflake, and Databricks. More recently, we have also begun leveraging AI tools like Claude and Gemini to enhance our workflows and improve productivity.

  • What initially attracted you to your job (what you currently do in the Ops Team) and how have you found inspiration in what you do? I would say it’s the opportunity to work closely with people and be part of something that’s constantly evolving. I appreciate that it isn’t just one repetitive task, but a dynamic environment where you need to think, adapt, and collaborate.
    What truly keeps me inspired is the impact you can have on someone’s life. Sometimes you don’t fully realize it, but a job change can completely transform a person’s situation—their growth, confidence, and even their personal life.
    What initially attracted me to recruitment was my background in psychology and my passion for helping people. I enjoyed supporting individuals with their mental health, and I saw recruitment as another way to make a positive impact by helping people find fulfilling opportunities while assisting companies in building strong teams. The opportunity to connect talented individuals with companies where they can thrive has been incredibly rewarding. Additionally, seeing the impact of my work on both candidates and organizations continues to inspire me to strive for excellence in what I do.

 

  • What innovation or achievement have you participated in that you consider to be a milestone in your professional career? One achievement I consider a major milestone in my career was improving how I approach finding and connecting with talent. Instead of simply following a traditional process, I began focusing on being more intentional with my outreach, gaining a deeper understanding of people, and building genuine connections.
    I also had the opportunity to work on a recruitment project in Japan that marked a pivotal moment in my career. Immersing myself in a new culture not only expanded my professional horizons but also deepened my passion for this work. Exploring the intricacies of Japanese business practices sparked a strong interest in cross-cultural learning and reinforced my belief in the transformative power of understanding and respecting diverse perspectives. This experience enriched my role as a recruiter, highlighting the importance of cultural sensitivity and adaptability in building successful connections between candidates and companies from different backgrounds.

What motivates me day to day is knowing that even the small things I do contribute to something bigger—whether it’s helping things run more smoothly or supporting others. Being surrounded by driven and positive people also pushes me to keep improving and bring my best every day.

    Also, don’t underestimate the value of being genuine and building real connections with people. Skills are important, but your attitude, energy, and how you collaborate with others can truly set you apart.
    Finally, trust the process. You won’t have everything figured out from the beginning, but if you stay consistent and open, you’ll find your way and create opportunities for yourself.

My name is Daniela. I am 28 years old, and I am Colombian and Italian. I have a twin sister, and I love my family—they mean everything to me. I moved to Italy, and I truly feel it has been a unique opportunity that has helped me grow significantly, both personally and professionally. I love ajiaco and spending time with the people I care about, but I also really enjoy sleeping and watching movies. I absolutely love dogs, and one of my biggest motivations in life is being able to help others. 

  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? Although I am not an engineer, I work closely with the engineering and IT world as an IT Recruiter. What initially attracted me to this field was the opportunity to connect talented people with roles where they can truly grow and feel valued. I have always been passionate about Human Resources, and I love being able to help individuals find a workplace where they feel motivated, supported, and happy.
    I strongly believe that when people work in a company with a healthy environment and a strong organizational culture, they achieve better results and also experience greater stability and well-being in their personal lives. That belief inspires me every day in my career and motivates me to keep making a positive impact through my work.
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? One milestone I consider important in my field is contributing to more human-centered and data-driven recruitment processes. I have been involved in using modern recruitment tools and platforms to identify talent more efficiently, reduce bias, and improve the candidate experience.

Look for environments where learning, collaboration, and a healthy culture are just as important as results, because that’s where real growth happens.

In my role as an IT Recruiter, I mainly use LinkedIn Recruiter and LinkedIn to source and connect with talent, as well as Mismo’s internal platform and databases. I also work frequently with the client database, which supports our recruiting process and helps ensure alignment with client needs.

I’m a very tech-oriented person. I enjoy programming, gaming, and anime, and I also love lifting weights and playing soccer.

  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? I started creating websites and experimenting with technologies like WordPress, Drupal, and others when I was 12, so I began programming at a very young age.
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? I worked on a project that relied heavily on excellent performance and fast response times. We migrated from a slow Ruby engine running JavaScript through React on Rails to a fully performant Node.js solution, which improved both our response times and overall performance.
  • What made you choose Mismo? I feel it’s a great company with excellent people and truly outstanding projects. 
  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? It’s an incredible work environment—everyone is always open to helping, discussing, and contributing. 
  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo and how have you utilized these opportunities to grow as a professional? Becoming more detail-oriented.

  • Tell us a little about yourself: I’ve been passionate about science and technology since a very young age, and I’ve always enjoyed solving problems through code. Eventually, I realized I could turn it into a career, and I’ve been growing and learning ever since. I have a deep love for video games, and most of my creative expression goes into video production, writing, and music. These outlets help me connect with myself and with those around me. ☺️🎶 
  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? I’ve had a close relationship with technology since I was a kid. When I got into science—mainly math and physics—I began using code for computations, simulations, and other applications. That naturally led me to dive deeper into software development whenever I needed it for a project. 😁
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? Implementing a more efficient code structure—one I designed myself—at my current company pushed me to grow in many areas of development. Seeing all those small improvements come together into high-performing code was incredibly rewarding.

  • Tell us a little about yourself: I am a passionate Full-Stack Engineer from San Carlos, Costa Rica. I grew up in an extremely rural area without access to essential services and technologies such as electricity, television, telephone, or transportation. However, through hard work and dedication, I graduated from Tecnológico de Costa Rica in 2009. Since then, I have continued to grow professionally, largely thanks to the incredible family that is Mismo. I am happily married and the proud father of a beautiful daughter.
  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? I hadn’t originally planned to become an engineer, but during my final years of high school, the option of majoring in Computer Science emerged. I applied, passed the admission exam, and decided to enroll—mainly for fun. In the end, it helped me gain a deeper understanding of what it meant to be a computer science professional, and from that moment on, I was determined to pursue this path in college.
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? I firmly believe that our current client has grown into a solid company largely due to the contributions of our engineering team.
  • What made you choose Mismo? I initially worked at Mismo as a contractor, which allowed me to experience its excellent work environment and professional culture. Two years later, when the opportunity to officially join the Mismo family arose, I knew it would be my home for years to come.

For frontend development, we use React, Next.js, and Angular. Our databases include MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, and ETCD. We work with message queue platforms like Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Debezium. Additionally, we use tools like ChaosSearch, Rollbar, Datadog, AWS, EKS, and Apache Spark. Our 3rd party integrations include Auth0, SendGrid, SendWithUs, Semantria, and ReviewSites.

  • Tell us a little about yourself: I’m the proud father of a baby girl—the cutest in the world. I’ve been happily married for six years. As the eldest of four siblings, I’ve learned the meaning of responsibility from an early age. Born in Liberia, Guanacaste, I come from humble beginnings, which instilled in me a strong desire to learn and succeed in life.
  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? I remember the first time my dad brought a computer home to work on his own projects. At that moment, I was so eager to take it apart, clean it, and then put it back together that it left a lasting impression on me. From that day on, I knew I wanted to study computers.
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? I like to set milestones for every goal I pursue, regardless of its complexity. In other words, even the smallest achievement feels like a milestone to me. For example, using cutting-edge technology can be considered a milestone, as it means being among a select group of people worldwide utilizing that innovation. The fact that you’re using it to solve someone’s problem makes it even more remarkable.
  • What made you choose Mismo? The people! I loved the individuals I had the chance to interact with during my interview (a long time ago). They were—like everyone here—some of the smartest and kindest people I’ve ever met, a combination of traits that’s truly rare to find.
  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? I would describe it as the “3F”: Friendly, Family, and For the Win!
  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo and how have you utilized these opportunities to grow as a professional? I’ve had many growth opportunities that have allowed me to explore new paths and seize opportunities that many would envy compared to other places. To name a few: speaker, team/tech lead, engineering manager, and more. However, the most important lesson I’ve learned is to stay humble!
  • What aspects of working at Mismo’s engineering team make you proud and motivate you in your daily tasks? Respect and Trust! At Mismo, people respect each other at every level. Additionally, we all trust in the mission we work toward, which allows us to think in alignment, regardless of any differences we may have.
  • How do you believe the company and engineering can positively impact the world, people’s lives, and make a difference in their respective industries? Do things with love! Always think of or imagine that you’re working to solve a problem that you or someone you love will benefit from!
  • What Mismo policies or practices have helped you improve your work-life balance? The Remote Working Policy and Education Policy are great! They allow me to be productive in a flexible way, which I truly appreciate. Additionally, I was able to earn my CSM certificate, something that is very important to me.

If you’re pursuing this career: “There is no try, just do and repeat!” – If you take action, you’ll eventually get there. If you repeat, you’ll quickly learn everything you need to know.
