Mismo’s innovative 3-Dimensional Resume

When you apply for jobs, your work experience, soft and hard skills are essential to show potential. For Mismo, it is crucial to evaluate your experience and get to know your technical and social skills.

The CV’s are usually the very first impression that an employer gets of a candidate.  The average hiring process is 42 days long, according to the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM.) One of the reasons why recruitment processes last too long is that recruiters want to verify too many skills, but thanks to the Mismo platform, we can shortcut our best candidates through the 3D resume application.

Experience: The first dimension – Showcase your experience

This is the traditional part of the resume, where the candidates can present their skills, work history and experience. The resume needs to make the candidate stand out from the crowd and showcase the years of experience is vital.

Relevant elements for the resume are the descriptions of past jobs, volunteer work, projects, and educational qualifications. It should be clear and concise yet descriptive. It’s also important to structure your resume strategically, you showcase the qualifications that are most relevant to the job you’re seeking.

Soft skills: The second dimension – Video to demonstrate communication skills

The candidates can display their personalities and demonstrate their creativity, passion, and drive through a video. It could also make them stand out in the competitive application process. It’s hard to showcase your personality just in a written CV. Instead, the video lets you make a better impact. In this part, the candidate can physically demonstrate skills such as public speaking and communication. The reviewer will read the body language and have a more accurate image of the candidates to evaluate if they fit the role appropriately. Each position has its own personality and like in every relationship, we need to make sure we are making the perfect match.

The video also adds credibility to the profile because it makes the skills more personal. It will also show its full potential, and this is a way to engage with the recruiter. Being able to see enthusiasm and most importantly, your personality, is very important for any role.

Hard skills: The third dimension – Tech skills assessment

Skill testing gives Mismo a competitive advantage. Candidates hired on merit rather than the background tend to stay longer and perform better over the long term. We use these assessments to filter out unqualified candidates early in the recruiting process and to improve hiring outcomes by identifying developers who can demonstrate that they have the skills required for the position.

Our skills tests ask a variety of questions in different formats to see how candidates perform on-the-job tasks. The questions are specifically related to the responsibilities of each position. This is a way to visualize the acquired knowledge, skills, and experience. In Mismo, the candidate can select the test that best fits their abilities to show their best.

A document is not enough to highlight your personality, explain what you’re passionate about, why you’re perfect for a position, or tell relevant anecdotes or experiences. By applying only with your resume, you’re missing out the opportunity to introduce the real “you” to our recruiters. That’s why at Mismo, we offer a 3D platform application where we get to know the candidates more closely and in a more profound way to make the best match!

The power of A/B testing

Leonardo Matos, Fullstack Engineer

Of all the tools and techniques at your disposal to help you improve your product, my favorite is, by far, the concept of A/B testing.

We all want to build the perfect technology product, things that impact people, and high quality in all its components, processes, interfaces, designs, etc.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do this without user feedback effectively. Some even advocate that there is no limit to the benefit provided by user feedback; the more user feedback your product receives, the better the product will be.

One of the most popular ways to capture user feedback is through a well-tailored survey. While this is a viable option, maintaining a survey can be tedious, and some users don’t have the time or interest to fill out surveys.

Wouldn’t obtaining their feedback by analyzing their behavior and interaction with our product would be better? As opposed to bothering the user with surveys, they might not want to answer at all.

That is precisely what we can accomplish with A/B testing.

As you probably know, A/B testing is an iterative, user-centered, and data-driven method to obtain user feedback that we can use to make decisions regarding our products and services. It is entirely transparent to the user, and they don’t know they are providing this data while they are (aside from mentioning this in your privacy policy and disclaimers).

You are presented with one random variation of a human-facing component from two (or more) options (Version “A”, the control version Version “B,” the variation. Multiple variations can be included)

We can identify the highest-performing variation with proper experiment design and modify our product accordingly. This process can be performed as many times as needed.

A complete framework for an A/B test follows these steps:

  1. Define a research question
  2. Refine the question with user interviews
  3. Formulate a hypothesis, identify appropriate tools, and define test metrics
  4. Set up and run an experiment
  5. Collect data and analyze results
  6. Share results and make decision

Should we put that optional second form in a modal or right next to the first one? A/B test it. It seems users rarely click on our products. Should we show a large image with minimal information or a smaller image with more product information? A/B test it.

If you think about it, A/B testing is pretty much like natural selection, where the more effective version of your product survives.

Even if you take a component of your product to a desirable point of effectiveness, it’s not a bad idea to try the experiment again a year or two later. Trends in product design are ever-changing, so what is very effective to your users today might not be effective several years later.

Also, people’s way of thinking and tech-savvy vary depending on the audience your product is aimed at, so if your audience changes over time, you might want to run more A/B tests.

Since A/B testing requires effort and resources that are not infinite, it should be done in the most important parts of the product or the ones that generate more value. But when used wisely and correctly, A/B testing can help make a great product!

The best is yet to come

This dream began 11 years ago when its founders, husband and wife – Jinal Jhaveri and Forum Desai, both Computer Engineers, decided to give up their comfortable jobs in the Silicon Valley and start their own venture. It was a bold and risky move, but from their early days, they had excellent results. In 2012 they opened their first US offices in the middle of the action in downtown San Francisco. The next year, they opened the Costa Rica office just across the street from the University of Costa Rica.

In the last 11 years, Mismo has worked remotely in 6 different countries. One of the most significant challenges in companies and remote work is creating an optimal and positive culture. However, this is not the case with Mismo. Since the beginning, it has strived to create an optimal work environment where trust, dialogue, and teamwork are present. Mismo has understood the value of its collaborators, clients, and community, which is why it is a family for many.

As Mismo grows every day; we want our people to grow with the company and the culture sustainably. We care about providing the best quality to our clients, but we need the best collaborators for this. In Mismo, we hire the highest quality talent, and we take care of retaining it; we are interested in them, their well-being, comfort, and happiness.

Such is the case of Pilar Del Valle, who has had the opportunity to work and study simultaneously. She appreciates that Mismo motivates and allows people to continue growing both professionally and personally. Right now, we are very proud because she is about to graduate from her master’s very soon.

Also, Mismo’s Senior Software Engineers Pablo and Christian appreciate the job stability that they found with Mismo over the years. They are delighted and proud to have the pleasure of working with clients and projects of great relevance and high quality. It has allowed them to learn from the latest in the technology industry.

Likewise, Fernanda Coto highlights that she has found the opportunity to practice all her leadership skills since she has directed projects on different occasions. By working with diverse clients, she has also improved her communication skills.

Today, it is a large family of 45 employees, with a presence in 6 countries and 100% growth of its team in the last year. They currently work passionately with more than 25 loyal clients.

For these and many other reasons, today, at Mismo we raise our glasses and toast for yesterday, for today, and for everything that comes, this is just the beginning. It is the bonds, trust, commitments, and people who have made it work, helped it grow, and, through these relationships, we are celebrating, continue to support it flourish for years to come.

Mismo’s Extraordinary Fathers!

On Father’s Day, we celebrate the men who are working hard everyday to shape up the present and future of their children. The Fathers who have endured sleepless nights and are willing to do anything in order to give their children a better life. Here at Mismo, we celebrate the fathers who work with us because even when they have sleepless nights, they wake up the next morning looking forward to being super dads who work very hard and put their families first.

As we know, being a father is not an easy task for many reasons. That is why Mismo honors each one of them. Marcos Aruj, Mauricio Peraza and Tomas Garrido are some of our team members that celebrate being loving fathers. They commented that active parenting while working from home has allowed them to spend more time together and has been a great opportunity to watch their kids grow and strengthen their bonding relationships. Also, they added that it is more accessible to share small but relevant moments, such as breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and dinner/sleeping time. These dynamics are possible thanks to the remote work contract offered at Mismo.

“Mismo is very flexible with your work schedule, and so is the customer I work with, so if I had to take some time to run an errand, a medical visit, or anything, I could do it without any problem. I like that kind of flexibility. They trust you enough to know that even if you take that time, you’ll get the job done,” commented Mauricio Peraza, Software Engineer.

Mismo’s fathers can help their kids in their virtual lessons and their daily needs. But beyond having quality time with their children, they get to see them grow while being full-time dads, and not just a few minutes at night before they go to bed. Yet, being a stay-at-home dad can sometimes be challenging and even funny. We have already gotten used to the fact that children are part of many of the work meetings. Such is the case of Marcos, when Marcos was in a meeting and Amanda was running through the house, all happy and yelling: “I made poop, Papa! I made a poop!”

These fathers recommend having patience because sometimes it is hard to work and be parents simultaneously, but it is always worth it in the end. They recommend being very disciplined with the work start and end times to dedicate quality time to the family and teach the children that they still need time to focus on your work even though they are at home. Additionally, they think that finding a quiet place that they can make their own is vital.

“While work is critical, we need to remember why we work and our end goal: to have a good life for our family and kids. Supporting fathers inside our company allows these dads to be present in their kid’s lives and share their responsibilities with their significant others. This balance reduces employee burnouts and lets them do well as an employee and as a father,” commented Jinal Jhaveri, Mismo Co-Founder who is also a loving and caring father of two beautiful daughters.

“Take the opportunity to work remotely with responsibility since it is a gift/benefit that not all people have!” – Tomas Garrido, Mismo Software Engineer.

Meet: Marcos Aruj

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’ve been with Mismo for more than 6 years now and for almost 2 of them, I’ve been an engineering lead. I love playing and watching soccer, playing the guitar and drums (newbie), and staying up-to-date with the latest trends in IT, development, and architecture in general.

What made you choose Mismo?

From the first interview I had, I loved the people, the office and the vibe I got from everyone. I knew right then I wanted to work here.

I also noticed that the tech stack they were using back then was very innovative. I wanted to learn new things as well and Mismo seemed like the right choice for this.

The quality of the people here is amazing, and I have made some life-long friendships with people and we’ve shared our best life experiences with one another (weddings, babies and more).

What projects are you working on?

Revinate, for more than 5 years now.

What has been your favorite project to work on?

Revinate!

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I have been growing since I joined, both personally and professionally. The way that Mismo relates to its clients it’s pretty unusual, in the sense that we actually form part of our clients teams, instead of just being contractors or outsiders. It’s encouraged and common for us to be able to make architectural and technical decisions, and get involved with them in solving their various and exciting challenges. I keep learning and looking for ways to improve things and having the empowerment from Mismo and Revinate to apply them is awesome and motivating.

From Log(N) to Mismo

Today we are pleased to share with you that we are saying goodbye to the Log(n) name and beginning a new chapter in our company’s story as we introduce ourselves as Mismo and coincidingly launch our new platform. A word that implies “Identical” or “Equal,” our new name and platform better aligns with our overall mission to provide our customers with established developers as fully-integrated team members and eliminate the hassle of administrative necessities such as recruiting, onboarding, compliance, infrastructure, payroll and procurement of equipment.

For small- and medium-sized technology companies, retaining and recruiting skilled software developers is one of the biggest challenges they face. In large technology hubs like San Francisco, New York, and Austin, companies that directly hire developers see turnover, on average, every eight months. By the time the employee is onboarded into the company process and culture, they are already seeking another opportunity or being approached with a higher offer, making it expensive to have top quality talent.

As startup founders ourselves, we know how tough it can be to find quality technical talent that will stay committed to your business for a long period of time. We also know that going through the hiring process can be costly and time-consuming. At Mismo, we have a full-service platform that enables you to hire, onboard and nurture your remote team. Our developers will be your full-time team members, but we’ll take care of all of the administrative work for you. From vetting candidates to contract negotiations and onboarding and procurement, Mismo is here, ready and willing to take away those stresses for you and we will do so as your partner, your equal.

How do we do it all? At Mismo, we have developed a state-of-the-art technology platform that allows us to not only be resourceful for our clients, but for our team members as well, and do so at scale. With this platform, thousands of developers are pre-vetted, through technical tests, communications tests, ability to work remotely, and other criteria related to their skills, and the world’s top companies are then matched with the right talent without the human resources hassle. With this platform, developers remain in a candidate pool so that as we help your team grow, we can fulfill its needs rapidly, yet effectively.

The name change is very important to us because we feel it better identifies with our goals as a company. Not only do we identify our success with yours, we also believe in amplifying the success of our team members. Our partnerships with our customers allow us to give developers opportunities to work on some of the most cutting-edge, advanced technological work in the world. When we eliminate some of the human resource stresses for our clients, we are also doing the same for our team members. No longer do they have to worry about the stresses of contract work, switching companies for better opportunities or the paperwork involved with new employment. Instead, they can continue to be a part of a tight-knit development team with a variety of opportunities on their horizon.

At Mismo, we all succeed equally. We stand out as a company because we fit in with yours. We are not just a temporary solution, rather we value the long-term partnerships that develop between us and our clients. As a premiere platform for tech talent, we truly believe that the rebranding and launch of our new platform will allow us to better serve our current and future customers.
