With over 10 years of experience as a software engineer, I bring dedication and passion to my work. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, cycling, and engaging in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? My interest in engineering began as a teenager, sparked by my love for computer games like Age of Empires—an incredible game! I was also skilled with computers at the time, so when it came to choosing a university major, I knew I wanted to pursue something related to technology. This led me to Software Engineering. I stay inspired by following influential frontend developers on social media and attending conferences. These experts share valuable insights into new trends and cutting-edge technologies, keeping me engaged and excited about the field.
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? I’ve worked on projects involving large monolithic applications built on legacy code, where modernizing these systems while maintaining value for customers posed a significant challenge. I’m proud to have contributed to initiatives that successfully transformed these monoliths into microservices. I also led the implementation of micro frontends using React and modern frameworks like Next.js for these legacy applications. This innovation brought value in two key areas: delivering faster, more responsive applications for customers and creating a more efficient development experience for the engineering team.
  • What made you choose Mismo? A close friend introduced me to Mismo, and for years, I hoped to join because I knew they worked with top developers.   • Tell us a little about yourself: I’m 31 years old, born and raised in Bogotá. I love playing video games and tennis. Currently, I’m learning to play the drums, and I would like to study photography in the future. In February of next year, I’m going to get married.

  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? I studied economics and initially pursued a career in finance. However, my first job after university was as a business development consultant, where I commercialized software used to automate business processes. Through that work, I became increasingly interested in technology and decided to complete a Master’s degree in Big Data and Analytics.

  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? I have been involved in the transformation of on-premise infrastructure to cloud environments. This shift has had significant implications for technology as a whole, but it has been a true game changer for data analytics and AI. On one hand, it has facilitated the digitalization of a company’s internal and external processes, resulting in more data being captured and made available. On the other hand, it has exponentially decreased the cost of storing and processing data.

  • What made you choose Mismo? I chose Mismo because it empowered me to work with an innovative company from the U.S. that I wouldn’t have been able to reach directly. It has given me the opportunity to experience a different culture and work with more advanced technology.

  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? The work environment at Mismo is truly special. I have always loved challenges and solving problems and that’s a big part of being a software engineer. I found inspiring starting a new day ready to tackle problems and open to new learning opportunities.

At Mismo we work really closely with startups, which enhances and values creativity and innovation because they are keys to develop unique products and services and we are able to see the impact that our work can provide.

  • Tell us a little about yourself: I’m a sociologist and economist from the National University of Colombia. I’ve been working for the data analytics team for 2 and a half years now.
  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career? I’m not an engineer, but I found interest in data the first time I started working on this. I started working for non profit organizations that collected and analyzed data about the conflict in Colombia and I found a lot of value and potential there. This never gets boring as you combine technical skills with other soft skills. You have to know how to tell a story, how to convince people, how to sell an idea and how the organization works in order to bring value to the table, while also keeping up to date with other technical requirements, coding languages and new tools.
  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field? There’s innovation everywhere, but I’d say that automating and improving some businesses processes. We have implemented some innovations that are saving thousands of hours to the company and helping people get rid of some manual and repetitive work to start doing what they’re best at.
  • What made you choose Mismo? I’m kind of an outlier since Mismo contacted me directly. However, I’ve found a lot of value in Mismo: Everyone from the HR team is available and happy to help with anything you need. People are kind, clear and open. This definitely helps create a healthier work environment, create engagement with other coworkers and bring some stability and benefits that contractors don’t usually have.
  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? Collaborative and kind!
  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo and how have you utilized these opportunities to grow as a professional? I was promoted recently, which required an incredible amount of work and effort. I’ve made contact with people from all kinds of different backgrounds and perspectives, learning new ways to do things and improving my own work habits. It’s surprising that, besides all the technical abilities you have to learn, you also end up improving some soft skills and at a personal level too.
  • What aspects of working at Mismo’s engineering team make you proud and motivate you in your daily tasks? I’d say being part of a team that is mainly in South America. I think there’s a lot of talent here that has not been fully explored yet. I also think we break stereotypes and make people change their minds regarding certain preconceptions that are somewhat generalized.
  • How do you believe the company and engineering can positively impact the world, people’s lives, and make a difference in their respective industries? Making life easier for all kinds of teams within the company. We’re constantly helping people make better decisions, sooner, and this implies getting rid of manual work, automating processes, making tasks faster and easier. This allows workers to have more free time to enjoy their time doing what they love, while keeping a high productivity at work.
  • What Mismo policies or practices have helped you improve your work-life balance? Karma activities help me distract from my day to day work and clear up my mind a bit. Some other socialization activities are super nice to have and have helped me know my coworkers better. Finally, having the opportunity to work remotely has helped me work in different environments, adjust times to my own schedule and have more time to do other things I love

I’m Murilo Locatelli, from the state of São Paulo, Brazil. I majored in Computer Science. I have 15+ years of experience in Software Development. I like to learn new technologies and ride my bike in my spare time.

  • What initially attracted you to engineering, and how have you found inspiration in this career?

When I finished high school, I was unsure about two totally different areas: Physical Education (because I’ve always liked practicing sports) and Software Engineering (which I’ve always liked and was curious to learn). I ended up choosing Software.

  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field?

There were a few milestones in my career, but the most important was when I worked for an e-commerce company that was going through a transition and modernizing its systems. In this project, I had the opportunity to learn a lot about modern architectures, microservices, messaging, containers, k8s, DevOps, and other things that I still use today in my work.

  • What made you choose Mismo? 

I didn’t know about Mismo until I received a contact for an opportunity that was in line with my qualifications. So, I researched the company, liked what I read about it, and decided to apply for the job. From the first contact until now, everyone has been very kind and helpful. They help me with everything I need to do my job.

  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? 

It’s a very pleasant environment to work in. Despite working full time on a specific client, Mismo promotes monthly events to bring employees closer together. Mismo is a company that cares about all its employees and will always help us with anything we need.

Since people are working for several of Mismo’s clients, we can learn a little about each of them and understand more about their business and the technologies they use. It’s an interesting exchange of experience that helps us grow professionally.

What makes me proud at Mismo is working in an engineering team with many highly skilled people, where you can learn more daily and grow technically.

  • How do you believe the company and engineering can positively impact the world, people’s lives, and make a difference in their respective industries?

Having the opportunity to work in a great company with people from different countries, which values quality of life, cares about its employees, and has great customers, has a positive impact on employees’ lives.

Mismo offers several benefits, two of which help with work-life balance: a generous number of PTOs and flexible working hours (according to the client’s schedule).

  • What inspiring advice would you give to someone considering a career in engineering or looking to join a company like Mismo?

My first advice would be to learn English and always evolve in the language, as we work for clients who have people from all over the world. Another advice would be to be a person who likes to learn new technologies and constantly evolve, as our clients work with the latest technologies and tools on the market.

  • What tools or technologies do you use most frequently in your daily work as an engineer at Mismo?

At the client I work for, I use the Java language, Kafka, and Kafka Streams on a large scale. We also use the Neo4j graph database.

I am a software engineer from Colombia who enjoys board games, fantasy, sci-fi, and nature. I have practiced several sports and currently keep a bow to occasionally practice archery.

  • What initially attracted you to engineering, and how have you found inspiration in this career?

A career in engineering is a journey of knowledge and discovery. The process of experimenting and devising solutions is incredibly captivating. I believe technology should be synonymous with helpfulness and liberation. Digital technologies, in particular, can remarkably reduce workload and simplify tasks, regardless of the job or its location.

  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field?

I have mostly worked with startups and emerging companies, and all wanted to provide users more information and higher-quality services. My favorite so far allows the renters to achieve a rent agreement and home insurance without relying on a third person. This is critically important as housing is a vital need, but it also increases the efficiency of the renting flow for all involved actors.

  • What made you choose Mismo?

    I was fortunate to be reached by Mismo to continue working with health-related companies. The people from Mismo have always been a joy to work with, talk with, and share with.

  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo? 

As one of the few remote workers, Mismo strives to include everyone as a group, and the working teams are extremely responsive. I can ensure that no matter which channel you post a message, an answer will follow soon.

  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo and how have you utilized these opportunities to grow as a professional?

The organization as a whole is open to helping develop, they are constantly looking for opportunities to provide access to learning platforms and resources, but if you are interested in more formal education, the company will support your decision and shape schedules and responsibilities to suit such education paths.

The colleagues are warm and intelligent, which is sometimes a rare encounter; collaborating with such great people is awesome.

  • Tell us a little about yourself

    I’m Rafael Mora, a Senior Software Engineer and Engineering Manager at Mismo. With 16 years of experience in software engineering, my career has been a constant learning and growth journey. I’ve worked across various industries, including banking, e-commerce, and healthcare, contributing to my diverse skill set. Over the years, I’ve gained expertise in numerous technologies and programming languages, such as Java, C#, Python, Node.js, React.js, React Native, and AngularJS, to name a few. My experience extends to working with databases like Sql Server, Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, Firebase, and cloud services such as AWS. This broad exposure has equipped me with the tools to tackle various challenges and innovate in my field.

  • What initially attracted you to engineering and how have you found inspiration in this career?

    My initial interest in engineering was sparked by my love for video games; I thought the field would be similar to this interest. However, as I progressed in my studies, I realized the significant impact that technology could have on solving real problems. This realization shifted my perspective, motivating me to explore how to contribute positively through my work. Throughout my career, I have worked with healthcare companies serving various groups, including children, adults, and individuals facing mental health issues. The understanding that even a small contribution from me could benefit millions of people worldwide has been advantageous. This journey has expanded my view of what engineering can achieve and strengthened my desire to use technology for the benefit of others. It’s a powerful reminder that the work we do in tech can have widespread effects, improving lives and communities.

  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field?

    One of the most significant contributions I’ve made within the engineering field is developing technology solutions for healthcare. Working with companies focusing on health care for different age groups and mental health has allowed me to be part of innovative projects that truly make a difference. For example, I’ve participated in creating software that improves patient care and streamlines healthcare services for children and adults alike. These projects have advanced the integration of technology in medicine and shown me the direct impact of engineering on improving people’s lives. Being part of these advancements, especially in a field as crucial as healthcare, has been a milestone in my career. It underscores the potential of engineering to solve real-world problems and improve millions of lives worldwide, aligning with my vision of technology as a tool for good.

    I chose Mismo because I love facing challenges and learning new things. Mismo offers many opportunities to grow and do different tasks, which I find exciting. They also offer great benefits and have a friendly work environment. All this made me feel that Mismo was the right place for me.

    At Mismo, I’ve had great chances to learn and grow. They helped me get a Scrum certification, which taught me a lot about organizing projects better. This has made a big difference in my work.

    I also moved up from being a team lead to an engineering lead. This move was a big deal because I could take on more responsibility and help guide our projects more. Mismo gave me the support and chances I needed to make this happen.

    In short, Mismo has helped me become better at my job by offering lots of learning opportunities and chances to move up.

    Working with Mismo’s engineering team makes me proud and motivated daily for several reasons. First, the people here are amazing. Everyone is supportive and intelligent, which makes working together a great experience. Then, there are the opportunities Mismo gives us to grow and learn, which means I’m constantly improving and facing new challenges. Finally, the projects we work on are exciting and vital. We get to solve real problems and make a difference, which feels rewarding.

    I believe Mismo has a big positive impact on the world and people’s lives through our work. Working on a mental health project has shown me how our expertise can directly help people by providing better tools and services for mental health care. Beyond specific projects, Mismo helps other companies by finding the right professionals they need to succeed. This means we’re helping our direct clients and contributing to the broader community by ensuring these companies can offer better services or products. Whether improving mental health care or supporting other industries, Mismo’s work touches lives and brings about positive changes in various sectors.

  • Tell us a little about yourself.

    Hello! My name is Rodrigo Imenes, people usually call me Imenes. I am married and have two children, a 4-year-old girl and an 11-month-old baby. I am 30 years old and have worked in the field for over 10 years. I’ve been here since November 2022

  • What initially attracted you to engineering, and how have you found inspiration in this career?

    When I was a child, I wanted to be a chemical engineer. I’ve always really liked logic, mathematics, and things like that. I ended up seeing my older brother graduate in Computer Science, and that’s where my passion began. I saw him programming and learned a lot from him until I entered college, and then I found myself in the profession once and for all. After a while, he stopped programming and became a Product Manager, and I continued programming.

  • What innovation or technical advancement have you been a part of that you consider to have made a milestone in your engineering field?

    There were some big milestones in my career. I worked at an e-commerce company, where we launched several features that are still used today. The first project I worked on in my life was a chat for a company here in my city, which is still live today with several clients. Both were exciting challenges and a lot of learning that I will always carry.

  • What made you choose Mismo?

    To be quite honest, I found Mismo halfway. I was doing a test for a friend’s company, and in the final stage, after going through all the company’s stages, I was introduced to Mismo. From then on, I enjoyed the company more and more every day, where the people were very helpful and always helped me and did everything they could to help me do my job. I have great affection for Mismo, and I am proud to be part of it!

  • How would you describe the work environment at Mismo?

    The environment here is very pleasant. We have several activities during the week that connect us with people we end up not talking much about (because they work for other clients). People are very receptive and are always ready to help

  • What learning and development opportunities have you had at Mismo, and how have you utilized them to grow as a professional?

    Here, I have the opportunity to learn a lot about different uses of technology, as we are in contact with people who work with other clients (generally with very different stacks). It’s really cool to learn about other frameworks and technologies.

  • What aspects of working at Mismo’s engineering team make you proud and motivate you in your daily tasks?

    Being part of Mismo is knowing that we have people from different regions, but all very good, which makes it cool to share and learn so many different things, be it technology, life and many other things.

  • How do you believe the company and engineering can positively impact the world and people’s lives and make a difference in their respective industries?

    Mismo’s work greatly helps people’s lives as it allows people to work for companies from other parts of the world, which allows greater flexibility in terms of hours, salary and also cultural issues. In my case, it’s having time with my children, allowing me to work from home in a large company. Seeing them grow and being around to see it is the greatest gift in my life

  • What Mismo policies or practices have helped you improve your work-life balance?

    We have some activities here that I will carry with me forever, one of them was definitely the day we cooked with our family and made Tiramisu. It was a very special moment where I cooked with my 4-year-old daughter, and despite the mess, everything went well! We also have weekly activities that are generally a good time to “disconnect” for a few minutes (which helps me as I always forget to take breaks during the day, hahaha)

  • What inspiring advice would you give someone considering a career in engineering or looking to join a company like Mismo?

    My advice is to study English and always be open to learning new technologies. Look for market trends, such as the most used frameworks, and study them a lot!

  • What tools or technologies do you use most frequently in your daily work as an engineer at Mismo?

    My daily life is full of React and Ruby on Rails. Now we are also using some things from OpenAI to drive growth in AI

Mismo’s Extraordinary Fathers!

On Father’s Day, we celebrate the men who are working hard everyday to shape up the present and future of their children. The Fathers who have endured sleepless nights and are willing to do anything in order to give their children a better life. Here at Mismo, we celebrate the fathers who work with us because even when they have sleepless nights, they wake up the next morning looking forward to being super dads who work very hard and put their families first.

As we know, being a father is not an easy task for many reasons. That is why Mismo honors each one of them. Marcos Aruj, Mauricio Peraza and Tomas Garrido are some of our team members that celebrate being loving fathers. They commented that active parenting while working from home has allowed them to spend more time together and has been a great opportunity to watch their kids grow and strengthen their bonding relationships. Also, they added that it is more accessible to share small but relevant moments, such as breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and dinner/sleeping time. These dynamics are possible thanks to the remote work contract offered at Mismo.

“Mismo is very flexible with your work schedule, and so is the customer I work with, so if I had to take some time to run an errand, a medical visit, or anything, I could do it without any problem. I like that kind of flexibility. They trust you enough to know that even if you take that time, you’ll get the job done,” commented Mauricio Peraza, Software Engineer.

Mismo’s fathers can help their kids in their virtual lessons and their daily needs. But beyond having quality time with their children, they get to see them grow while being full-time dads, and not just a few minutes at night before they go to bed. Yet, being a stay-at-home dad can sometimes be challenging and even funny. We have already gotten used to the fact that children are part of many of the work meetings. Such is the case of Marcos, when Marcos was in a meeting and Amanda was running through the house, all happy and yelling: “I made poop, Papa! I made a poop!”

These fathers recommend having patience because sometimes it is hard to work and be parents simultaneously, but it is always worth it in the end. They recommend being very disciplined with the work start and end times to dedicate quality time to the family and teach the children that they still need time to focus on your work even though they are at home. Additionally, they think that finding a quiet place that they can make their own is vital.

“While work is critical, we need to remember why we work and our end goal: to have a good life for our family and kids. Supporting fathers inside our company allows these dads to be present in their kid’s lives and share their responsibilities with their significant others. This balance reduces employee burnouts and lets them do well as an employee and as a father,” commented Jinal Jhaveri, Mismo Co-Founder who is also a loving and caring father of two beautiful daughters.
